FORMER HEAVYWEIGHT CONTENDER BONAVENA FINAL DAYS REVEALED IN "LOVE RANCH"

TRUFAN JUNE 29, 2010

"Ringo" was his nickname, and the late heavyweight contender Oscar Bonavena was made famous with his clashes with Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier. But in 1976, Ringo was found dead at the Mustang Ranch near Reno, Nevada, a victim of a high powered rifle bullet. What "Love Ranch" does is explain what happened in a love triangle that ended on a tragic note . . .

"Love Ranch" is  based on Mustang founders Joe and Sally Conforte, the  whose ranch in Reno highlighted attention in the '70s. Joe brought heavyweight fighter Oscar Bonavena to the ranch, where Ringo supposedly became involved with his wife Sally and was eventually shot to death in a climatic ending. The story details of what happened to Bonavena in the days prior to his death.

Oscar was over the edge, a playboy type, was car crazy who had many brushes with death before 1976. This is the way Oscar was - fast and furious. He died the way he lived - and "Love Ranch" tells the story . . .

The movie premieres tonight in New York. Stars Joe Pesci, Helen Mirren, Gina Gershon, and Sergio Peris-Mencheta
