In the coming months, there are a few fights that are shaping up to be rematches of classic MMA matches. All are exciting fighters to watch for various reasons and these fights have been proven to be great matchups. I expect these fights would be just as or more entertaining compared to their past fights.
Chuck Liddell vs Tito Ortiz 3
Chuck Liddell and Tito Ortiz are past their prime but both have storied careers in the UFC and they are among first stars in MMA. Now they are the opposing coaches in The Ultimate Fighter 11 (which starts March 31). Tito Ortiz may be the best trash talker in MMA and I am sure fireworks would fly during the show (although I doubt it can get to Rampage Jackson vs Rashad Evans level). The Iceman won the previous two bouts via KO and TKO and I hope he goes for the sweep because I really can't stand Tito Ortiz.
Brock Lesnar vs Frank Mir 3
Unless you have been living under a rock the last couple of years, you know by now that Frank Mir really really hates Brock Lesnar and if all things fall into place, there will be some epics promos from both fighters. Frank Mir won the first match and Brock Lesnar won the second to unify the UFC Heavyweight Championship. Mir needs to get through Shane Carwin (no easy task) first to get the rematch but he has been talking like he won already. I just hope Frank Mir isn't too focused on Lesnar and overlooks Carwin. From what I seen in the Mir vs Cheick Kongo fight, I think Frank Mir can do it and perhaps beat Brock Lesnar by being stronger than the past two fights while keeping his BJJ expertise.
Mauricio Shogun Rua vs Lyoto Machida 2
As a Lyoto Machida fan, I want closure in who won Rua vs Machida 1 debate. There are also a number of Light Heavyweights waiting for this situation to resolve so they can get a shot at the title. Shogun Rua proved that Machida wasn't invincible but Machida is a smart fighter and I expect him to scout out a better gameplan in their second fight. I hope the judges won't play into this fight with one of the fighters finishing it but that is a tall order with any Machida fights.
Ben Henderson vs Donald Cerrone 2
Ben Henderson vs Donald Cowboy Cerrone 1 for the Interim Lightweight Championship was my fight of the year. It was non stop action from start to finish. Henderson went to unified the Championship against Jaime Varner and Cerrone won against Ed Ratcliff to be the number one contender which sets up this epic rematch in WEC first PPV. This match again has the potential to be Fight of the Night and maybe even Fight of the Year again. Ben Henderson is quickly becoming one of my favorite fighters and it is a must watch for me.
